Makokou, named after a river in central Africa, arrived at the The Johannesburg Zoo in 2004. Makokou who is now 35 years old was in serious need of medical attention earlier this year.
A constant discharge from Makokou’s nose has led to a number of tests to evaluate the extent of suspected polyps in his sinus cavities.
